CNC Lathe Operator
Position Summary
The CNC Lathe Machinist IV role is responsible for producing machined parts by operating a computer numerical control (CNC) lathe, maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.
Essential Functions
- Read, interpret, and follow blueprints, diagrams, engineering drawings, specifications, and other written instructions or procedures to accurately machine parts.
- Program lathes utilizing Mastercam Lathe/Mill turn software.
- Knowledgeable with multi axis Lathes, live tooling, and Y axis.
- Set up lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, and compensation.
- Proficient at basic, moderate, and complex setup procedures.
- Ability to understand, edit and modify G and M code.
- Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces, adjusting and reprogramming controls; and replacing worn tools.
- Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, materials, specifications, interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances.
- Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
- Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
- Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer’s instructions.
- Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
- Maintain inventory of product in workstations.
- Perform quality work checks to ensure the product meets quality standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
