CNC Lathe Operator

Position Summary

The CNC Lathe Machinist IV role is responsible for producing machined parts by operating a computer numerical control (CNC) lathe, maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.

Essential Functions

1. Read, interpret, and follow blueprints, diagrams, engineering drawings, specifications, and other written instructions or procedures to accurately machine parts.
2. Program lathes utilizing Mastercam Lathe/Mill turn software.
3. Knowledgeable with multi axis Lathes, live tooling, and Y axis.
4. Set up lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, and compensation.
5. Proficient at basic, moderate, and complex setup procedures.
6. Ability to understand, edit and modify G and M code.
7. Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces, adjusting and reprogramming controls; and replacing worn tools.
8. Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, materials, specifications, interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances.
9. Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
10. Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
11. Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer’s instructions.
12. Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
13. Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
14. Maintain inventory of product in workstations.
15. Perform quality work checks to ensure the product meets quality standards.
16. Performs other duties as assigned.
